Although Garmin has been making many of the best-selling GPS navigators in the market, many competing companies are beginning to roll out a slew of impressive devices. Some of them have even proved to be formidable competitors. The TomTom GO 720, for instance, is in my opinion much better than many Garmin GPS models in the market.
The TomTom GO 720 has a 4.3-inch LCD screen for displaying the maps. It is a touch-screen and displays images in a 480 x 272 resolution. This model uses a lithium polymer battery than can last up to 5 hours on a single charge. For connectivity, this device has a USB port, a SD memory card slot and has Bluetooth capabilities.
The TomTom GO 720 has a unique design that is a refreshing break from the already boring Garmin designs. From the front, it is mostly rectangular with a slight arch on the top. It measures just 4.6 x 0.9 x 3.3 inches in dimensions and weighs at 7.8 ounces. Most of the connectors are located below the device. The speaker is located behind the unit.
Some of the best features of this model can be found in its navigational applications. Many of the features that are found on the 720 can only be found in high-end Garmin models that are much more expensive than this one. There are also many features that are not found on Garmin GPS navigators.
TomTom GPS devices incorporate the Map Share feature that allow users to update their maps and share their updates with each other. This way, users will be able to get frequent updates on the latest alterations to road systems. Performance wise, the device was quite speedy where it gave directions and recalculated routes rather quickly. The maps and points of interest were also very comprehensive. Other cool features on the TomTom GO 720 include the Buddies feature (that allows you to locate other TomTom users), Bluetooth (that allows you to make calls through the device), and text-to-speech functions, just to name a few.
